First, a poli sci class on the grass and then a walk through the woods on campus. All in a day's work at NC State University in Raleigh, N.C.
Makes us realize the stark contrasts in the type of campus environments available for high school seniors. But how could one judge that they just would not be happy at a univ such as this? Consider everyone of these students just as fortunate as those who may find themselves at NYU or Boston University. Totally different journeys to a very similar destination.
Musings: for all of those who strive for the ivory tower and beyond ... and sometimes wonder how to get there.

California ... poor, poor California
On Monday, the California State University (CSU) system announced that it would shut the door to admissions for Spring 2013 enrollment.
Yesterday, the CSU Board of Trustees approved 10 percent pay hikes for two campus presidents, following grim budget projections which called for students to endure more budget cuts. It's a funny world.

Continuing a very bad trend:

What can students do? How can we let current high school students know that the opportunities for them are just not available? There is already such little support in the high schools and in their lives, period.
Without open universities, funded through the states, we are setting up a very clear path for future disaster, it seems to me.

Good afternoon, Brown U.
Students here don't let anything slow them down, it seems. What optimistic, busy (but friendly and helpful) people. After speaking with so many students, there don't seem to be any who regret their decision to take advantage of this amazing opportunity. Carry on, Brown. Thank you.

Special Place
Perhaps people have heard more about her parent campus, Columbia, but Barnard is certainly not short on anything (except, perhaps, men). The College prepares women thinkers and leaders who go on to become exceptional women. It's really an amazing living and learning environment. Look it up.
