Greetings.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I have a passion for (higher) education and am pleased that people, err, at least one person, is interested in reading what I have to say about various topics at any given time. Again, thank you for checking the blog out and I look forward to engaging in productive idea sessions in the future.

Great Documentaries

  • Jesus Camp- It's just a type of fundamentalism/extremism. It was shocking to watch.
  • Who Killed the Electric Car- Haven't heard of this one? It came out long ago . . . back when gasoline was less than $2/gallon
  • Bowling for Columbine- Even if you don't like Michael Moore, it takes a sad and tragic look at the psychology of a couple of high school students
  • Supersize Me- Just because I can't stand fast food and the consequences that it has brought onto us
  • The Times of Harvey Milk- An interesting look at one of our nation's most historic leaders (that you've never heard of)
  • An Inconvenient Truth- If you haven't seen it I recommend you do. If, for no other reason than to help raise awareness of, and understand better, this pressing issue
  • Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room- The title here speaks for itself
  • War Room- About Bill Clinton's 1992 Presidential Campaign. It illustrates the great power of words, media and conflict
  • Tibet: Cry of the Snow Lion- A Documentary that reveals some very interesting history of the conflict between the Chinese Government and the people of Tibet
  • Spellbound- A hilarious behind-the-scenes look at the Scripps National Spelling Bee and some of the participants
  • Amandla- Great South African Documentary about Music building hope and how that helped to overcome Apartheid

Great Movies

  • Kundun- A Scorcese film that shows exactly why both the Dalai Lama and Scorcese, himself, are forces of vision and power to be reckoned with.
  • The Big Lebowski- It's absurdism. It's hilarious. It's the Coen Brothers. And it gets better everytime I watch it.
  • Chocolat- I have to re-watch this every year just because . . .
  • Pan's Labyrinth- Aren't imaginations so powerful?
  • Love Me If You Dare- One of the least known, and most powerful, love stories of all time
  • I am Sam- Sean Penn earned my respect for this one
  • Mystic River- Powerful in every way
  • It's a Wonderful Life- Well . . . isn't it? Classic tale of the power of positive (or negative) thought
  • Best in Show- Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman) is at his best in this one
  • Tsotsi- A South African movie about poverty, growing up and the power of choice
  • Elizabeth- So interesting because of the look into how far the Catholic Church would go to stake it's claim
  • The Red Violin- A wonderful look at the history of objects and the power of a story
  • Thank You for Smoking- The definition of "Irony"
  • My Left Foot- Daniel Day Lewis' first Oscar and a true story
  • Sophie's Choice- Powerful . . . nothing more
  • Guess Who's Coming to Dinner- A classic look at the differences in how we 'say' versus what we 'do'
  • Citizen Kane- The all-time greatest movie-- and smart, too! Think about: what do great wealth and power achieve?
